What is Shockwave?
Shockwave is a plug-in for your browser, produced by Adobe, that allows you to see animated, interactive multimedia in your Internet Browser window. It is the big-brother of the Adobe Flash plug-in and has advanced features such as DirectX 3D capabilities. It is totally safe, free to install and allows the user to view a whole host of enhanced online experiences.
How do I install Shockwave?
You can install the Shockwave plug-in from the Adobe website here.
What do we sometimes use Shockwave rather than Flash?
Oast One's preferred Internet Browser plug-in is Flash but occasionally we need to use the Shockwave plug-in instead. This could be for one of a few reasons:
- The project was originally designed to work from a multimedia CD ROM using a development tool called Director. Content created with Director can easily be coverted to the web by using the Shockwave plug-in.
- The project requires functionality that isn't available in the Flash plug-in. Such as DirectX 3D or other specialist functions Flash doesn't include.
- We haven't had time to author a Flash version yet!
